In 2001, McCain opposed and voted against the Bush tax cuts. In 2003, he opposed additional tax cuts because the majority of those tax breaks went to the rich. But in 2006, he voted to make those tax cuts permanent.
After starkly claiming “Barack Obama will raise your taxes. I won’t,” McCain goes on Meet the Press last Sunday saying “There is nothing that’s off the table. I have my positions, and I’ll articulate them. But nothing’s off the table. I don’t want tax increases. But that doesn’t mean that anything is off the table.”
McCain has been flip flopping on just about every issue facing the American people.
In 2002, McCain favored a moratorium on offshore drilling. Just last month, in June 2008, he flip flopped and called for an end of the federal ban.
On abortion – in 1999 he said he would not support repealing Roe V. Wade, because of the potential harm to women. In 2006 campaiging for the presidential nomination he said the opposite.
McCain supported a major campaign finance reform measure that bears his name- he has now abandoned his own legislation.
McCain introduced legislation calling for increased border security and a pathway to citizenship in 2007. In a primary debate, he was asked if he would vote for his own bill and he said ”No!” But in 2008, speaking to a Latino group, he promised to resurrect his own bill. That makes this sort of a douple flip and a flop.
